Megamouth name is given to this species of shark because they swim with their mouth open and feed on plankton.
These sharks are extremely rare and according to some reports, only 60 of their kind have been spotted until now.
It was only in 1976, the first sighting of a Megamouth shark was confirmed. It is usually found near Japan, Taiwan and the Philippines.
