New Delhi: Goan cuisine is characterised by spices and aromas because Goa is situated on the west coast of India, close to the Arabian Sea. Rice and fish curry are the two main dishes here. Coconuts, rice, fish, pork, beef, and regional spices like kokum are used in most recipes. Goa's cuisine primarily consists of seafood, such as shark, tuna, pomfret, and mackerel fish. Prior to 1961, Goa was a Portuguese colony, hence Goan cuisine is heavily influenced by the Portuguese.

Here are a few dishes that you can try on your next trip to Goa:

1. Goan Fish Curry:

Goan fish curry is also known as Xitti Kodi. It is loaded with various spices along with coconut. The acidic flavour of the dish is also enhanced by using raw mango. A sizable Pomfret and raw mango are mainly used in the dish. You could also use kingfish and serve the dish with rice.

2. Bebinca:

This exquisite Goan dessert is meticulously crafted. Coconut milk, eggs, butter, and—most importantly—jaggery is used to prepare it. There are typically seven to sixteen layers in a traditional bebinca, but you can have as many as you like.

3. Pork Vindaloo:

This is arguably the most delicious and enduring Goan meal. Vinegar is denoted by "vin," whereas garlic is denoted by "ahlo," which is pronounced and written as "aloo." The beautiful crimson "masala," made of chillies, ginger, garlic, and cumin, is combined with vinegar-laced pork and simmered in a fiery red stew until flaky and delicate.

4. Goan Fish Fry:

Goan fish fry is a famous dish where the fish is marinated with spices and coated with rava. It is then shallow fried. The rava forms a crispy coating over the juicy and tender fish inside.
