When we get together to discuss skincare regimens, a man's skincare regimen seems to be the least interesting topic. For most people, men's skincare is probably non-existent. Dr Annu Prasad, an Ayurvedic consultant at Birla Ayurveda, explained that the human body's largest organ is the skin. Skin is an organ like any other, and it doesn't know a gender. We must begin to prioritise men's skincare just as much as women's skincare.

She said, "Since skin is the body's outermost covering, it requires particular consideration and care. Skin protection has grown in importance in the face of increased pollution and stress levels. Men typically use whatever face cream is on hand in front of them and don't follow any skincare regimens. These face creams for women don't do much for the skin. However, now is the perfect time to use men's products, like face wash, anti-ageing cream, whitening cream, and glow cream, which are all made with natural components."

Skincare Tips For Men:

Dr. Navnit Haror, who is a Gold Medalist, Chief Dermatologist, Cosmetic & Hair Transplant Surgeon, and founder of Dr. Haror’s Wellness shared the skincare tips for men:

  • The Core of Skincare

The foundation of any effective skincare regimen is simplicity and consistency. For men, it's not about adopting a complicated routine; it's about a few fundamental steps: cleansing, moisturizing, and sun protection.

  • The Daily Cleanse

A clean canvas is where it all begins. I recommend starting and ending your day with a gentle, hydrating cleanser. Cleansing helps to rid the skin of dirt, excess oil, and environmental pollutants. By maintaining a consistent cleansing routine, you can prevent common skin issues such as acne, blemishes, and a lackluster complexion.

  • Hydration is Key

Hydrated skin is healthy skin. Incorporating a suitable moisturizer into your daily routine is essential. Choose a moisturizer that matches your skin type to keep it soft and supple. The right moisturizer can also contribute to anti-aging by reducing the appearance of fine lines.

  • Guard Against the Sun

Sun protection is non-negotiable. UV rays from the sun can damage your skin, leading to premature aging, sunspots, and an increased risk of skin cancer. Always use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 to shield your skin from these harmful effects.

  • Understanding Your Skin

It's essential to understand your skin type and select products accordingly. Men often have distinct skincare needs compared to women. Tailor your regimen to your unique skin type, whether it's oily, dry, or sensitive.

  • Stress Management

The festive season can sometimes bring stress along with the celebrations. Stress can trigger skin issues like acne and eczema. To counter this, consider practicing stress management techniques such as deep breathing and yoga to ensure healthy skin.

  • Post-Diwali Recovery

Once the Diwali festivities wind down, it's time to focus on post-Diwali skincare. I recommend exfoliating to remove dead skin cells and promote skin renewal. Exfoliation can revitalize your skin, leaving it fresh and rejuvenated.

  • Consult a Dermatologist for Personalized Care

For those who seek a more individualized approach to skincare, consulting a dermatologist is an excellent idea. Dermatologists can assess your unique skin needs and offer tailored solutions to achieve your skincare goals.

Ayurvedic Skincare Tips

In this regard, Dr Annu suggested the following tips:

  • Cleanse your face with ayurvedic face wash

Starting with a cold-water face wash is the first step in skincare. Make use of a men's face wash containing ayurvedic components such as Sariva, Palandu, and Kumari. They provide clear skin and lessen dark spots and blemishes on the face.

  • Hydration is essential for man’s skincare

You will always have smooth, supple skin and better interior skin health if you drink at least eight glasses of water each day. Not only is hydration crucial for healthy skin, but it also benefits the entire body.

  • Use ayurvedic skincare products to maintain a man's skincare routine.

A healthy diet and plenty of water are important, but so is a man's skincare regimen. Use an ayurvedic or men's facial cleanser three to four times a day to cleanse your face. For sun protection, use SPF, and for a non-greasy finish and to preserve your natural shine, use men's facial glow cream. Men's facial whitening cream for scars and dark spots on the face.

  • Use an Ayurvedic men's face cream to moisturise your face.

Skin that has been moisturised well retains its suppleness and is revitalised. In addition to various men's face creams, regularly moisturising dry skin can have a significant impact.

  • Shaving carefully and taking care of one's skin after shaving

Shave with a high-quality razor, paying attention to the direction you shave. Don't alter the direction of shaving to upset the growth. Apply an ayurvedic skincare product right away after shaving, such as beard oil or men's face creams infused with cooling herbs, or just use moisturiser for dry skin, such as kumkumadi tailam.

  • What food and habits should be avoided as per skin type?

Food and lifestyle choices have a significant effect on skin texture. Depending on our skin type, there are certain foods we should avoid. Water-based foods are highly advised for those with oily skin, such as watermelons, bananas, musk melons, and cucumbers. Whole grains, brown rice, and oats are examples of goods high in fibre that can be included in the diet.

Use coconut water twice or three times a week to relieve dry skin. Avocados and nuts and seeds like flax, chia, walnuts, and almonds supply essential antioxidants and hydration. Normal skin type people don't need to follow any specific diet, but they should stay away from excessive amounts of oil and spices.

Impact Of Changing Weather On Skin:

Shreedha Singh, who is the Co-founder, of TAC - The Ayurveda Co. said, "Your skin is incredibly adaptable and reacts to changes in the weather in unique ways. To keep it nourished, protected, and moisturised throughout the year, it's essential to adjust your skincare routine. Hydration is key, so drink plenty of water daily to keep your skin hydrated. When cleansing, opt for gentle Ayurvedic cleansers with ingredients like Gold Dust, Manjistha, and Sandalwood to remove impurities without stripping your skin's natural oils. Avoid harsh cleansers that can worsen skin problems. For moisturising, choose natural Ayurvedic products tailored to your skin type. Ingredients like Kumkumadi, Indian Rose, Shea Butter, Aloe Vera, or Coconut Milk can be incredibly beneficial. And remember, even when the weather changes, protect your skin from the sun's UV rays with sunscreen or appropriate clothing and hats. Your skin will thank you!"
