Siblings Day 2022: Love them or hate them, you just cannot go away from them. Siblings at times are your best friends and sometimes your worst enemies. They are your support mechanism and also the biggest critic. They encourage you, embarrass you, be your motivators and also competitors.

In honour to celebrate the bonding between siblings, every year April 10 is celebrated as Siblings Day in parts of the world.

In the United States 'National Siblings Day' is recognised by 49 states but is not declared a federal holiday. India, Spain and Australia have made inroads in getting the day recognised. Meanwhile, National Siblings Day is celebrated as Brothers and Sisters Day on May 31 in many countries of Europe. In Portugal, Siblings Day is recognised as a holiday as well.

History Of Siblings Day

The Siblings Day initiative was started by Claudia Evart of the US. She created the holiday in 1995 after losing her brother and sister at an early age. Claudia realised the importance of siblings in a person's life, so to honour the memory of her siblings she created a holiday. For Siblings Day, Claudia chose April 10 — her late sister’s birthday.

In order to pursue her mission for the Siblings Day holiday, Claudia also floated the "Siblings Day Foundation" which works to spread the mission of honouring siblings. Currently, the foundation is working to make Siblings Day a federal holiday in the US and establishing an International Siblings Day with the help of the United Nations.
