New Delhi: "Akdom chup! Toke kidnap kore rape kore debo" (Shut up! I will kidnap and rape you) This is how a 27-year-old woman in Kolkata was threatened by Santu Pramanik (28), the driver of the Uber cab she had booked, reported an English Daily.

According to TOI, on Monday (July 4) at around 10 pm, the woman, a Jadavpur University student and her friend had booked an app-cab in Salt Lake, Kolkata. Shockingly, the moment the friend got off, the driver speeded up and tried to take the passenger to a different direction through deserted lanes.

When the woman insisted the driver to get back on the main road, the driver threatened to abduct and rape her if she uttered another word.

The Salt Lake resident jumped off the car, as soon as she realised she was in danger, even after the driver tried to block her knees by pushing his seat back. As if this wasn't enough, the cabby then put the car on reverse and tried to crush the woman under it. Fortunately, she jumped on the footpath and managed to save herself.

She filed a complaint with Uber and the police who arrested the accused the next day, charged him with molestation and criminal intimidation.
