Happy Durga Puja 2022 Wishes: It's Mahanavami today, the penultimate day of the Durga Puja festival, which ends Wednesday with Vijayadashami. Durga Puja is being celebrated across the country with much zeal this year as the last two years saw subdued festivities due to the Covid pandemic.
What Happens On Mahanavami?
According to Hindu mythology, Navami was the day when Goddess Durga defeated the Buffalo-headed demon, Mahishasura. On this day, She made the final attack on the tyrannical demon king, who was finally killed by Her the next morning, which is celebrated as Vijayadashami or Dussehra. The feat gives Durga the moniker of Mahisasuramardini, which means the 'slayer of Mahishasura'.
Many consider Navami an auspicious day to start new ventures. Households that celebrate Navratri also perform the annual Kanjak Puja or Kumari Puja on Navami when young girls who haven't attained puberty yet are worshipped.
