Who Is Sakat Mata?

Sakat Mata is supposed to be a form of Goddess Durga. This avatar is believed to bestow fertility on mothers and protect children from evil and unpleasant situations. She also shields their children from harm and blesses them with good health. Her portrait depicts her seated on a throne with a child on her lap/children around her feet.

Story Of Sakat Chauth:

According to Hindu legend, there was a blind elderly woman who lived in a village with her son and his wife. Lord Ganesha appeared in front of her one day and promised to give her anything she desired. Because the old lady was perplexed, Lord Ganesha advised her to talk with her son and his wife.

While his son advised her to ask for money, his wife suggested she ask for a grandson. The elderly lady then sought advice from her neighbours, who advised her to have an eye examination. The old lady, perplexed, told Lord Ganesh everything the next day and he granted all of her wishes.

Significance Of Sakat Chauth:

Sakat Chauth is devoted to two gods. On the one hand, it is significant for moms who worship Sakat Mata and pray for the lifespan and well health of their children. On the other hand, believers conduct a day-long fast to seek Lord Ganesha's blessings for a trouble-free existence. Interestingly, the moonrise time is important in both circumstances. Devotees fast from sunrise to moonrise and end their vrat only after worshipping Chandra Dev (Moon God).

What To Do On Sakat Chauth?

On this day, most individuals get up early to take a bath. People then pray to Lord Ganesha and offer yellow flowers, Durva grass, and Til Koot to the deity. A diya is lighted with desi ghee, and the Sakat Chauth Katha is recited along with the mantra. It is advised to take a Satvik meal without onion or garlic on this day. Women usually break their fast after sighting the stars.
