Phalguna Purnima 2023: Here's All You Need To Know About Rituals And Traditions Of This Day

The full moon day of the Phalgun month, also known as Falgun Purnima, is revered as a very special day. Traditions and beliefs hold that when one observes a fast on the full moon of the Falgun month, they are bestowed with countless blessings and have all of their problems resolved. People observe quickly on this day from sunrise until the moon rises in the evening because of this.

Along with keeping a fast on this day, people worship Lord Vishnu and take part in the Satyanarayan Vrat Katha. During the Pradosh period in the late afternoon, the ritual of Holika Dahan is performed.

What Is The Significance Of Holika Dahan On Phalgun Purnima?

According to Hindu mythology, on the night of Phalgun Purnima, Hiranyakashyap's sister Holika attempted to kill Prahlad by burning him in the fire, but Prahlad survived and Holika was burned to death. As a result, every year on the occasion of Phalgun Purnima, Holika Dahan is performed, and Holi is celebrated the next day.

According to Drikpanchang, the Shukla Paksha of Phalgun begins on March 6 at 4:17 am and ends on March 7 at 6:09 pm. According to Udayati, the bath and donation on the auspicious day of Phalgun Purnima will take place on March 7.

There is a popular belief that fasting on the full moon day improves your health and brings good luck into your life. On this full moon, Lord Shiva and Vishnu are especially worshipped. Satya Narayan Puja is the form in which Lord Vishnu is worshipped. In addition, there is an evening ritual to worship the moon.

How To Perform Phalgun Purnima Rituals?

People wake up before sunrise to take a pilgrimage bath, according to Falgun Purnima traditions. According to the Puranas, if this is done on Falgun Purnima, all of that person's sins are cleansed. People take a pledge to donate, fast, and worship Lord Vishnu after taking the holy bath. People then visit temples for further darshan after worshipping Lord Vishnu at home. People participate in Satyanarayan recitations during the day. On Phalgun Purnima, people should also make donations, provide water and clothing, and other necessities to those in need.
