New Delhi: National ice-cream day is celebrated on the third Sunday of July and this year the date falls on July 16. This day encourages people to cherish the simple joys and pleasant memories made by this classic dessert, whether as a nostalgic delight, a refreshing indulgence on a hot summer day, or a symbol of togetherness and celebration. It brings together ice cream lovers from all over the world, creating a sense of community and appreciation for the timeless delight.


National Ice Cream Day 2023: History


President Ronald Reagan inaugurated National Ice Cream Day in 1984 to recognise the popular delicacy enjoyed by more than 90% of the American people. This honour elevated the dairy industry and highlighted Americans' fondness for ice cream, with the country consuming the most ice cream in the world at 23 gallons per year. President Reagan's love of ice cream also inspired the establishment of July as the Ice Cream Month.


National Ice Cream Day 2023: Recipes To Try At Home


Here are some delicious recipes that you can try at home on this day.


1. Toasted Almond Ice Cream (By Chef Sagar Phansekar, Blue Bop)


This traditionally churned, French style, Toasted Almond Ice cream recipe features a rich, creamy base flavored with toasted almonds, and a crunchy texture from even more toasted almonds.


Ingredients:



  • Full fat milk- 1 ltr

  • Fresh cream- 500 gm

  • Roasted almonds- 500 gm

  • Stablizer- 5 gm

  • Castor Sugar- 100 gm


Method:



  • Weigh all the ingredients along with warm milk.

  • Churn the mixture in gelato machine for 20 minutes.

  • Remove and layer with chopped roasted almonds.

  • Freeze for 5 hours before ready to serve.


2. Mint Chocolate Sundae (By Chef James Patrick, Fat Tiger)


Ingredients:



  • 2 cups of mint chocolate chip ice cream

  • 1/4 cup of chocolate syrup

  • 1/4 cup of crushed chocolate cookies

  • 1/4 cup of whipped cream

  • Fresh mint leaves (for garnish)


Instructions:



  • Take two scoops of mint chocolate chip ice cream and place them in a serving bowl or glass.

  • Drizzle chocolate syrup over the ice cream.

  • Sprinkle the crushed chocolate cookies on top.

  • Add a dollop of whipped cream.

  • Garnish with a few fresh mint leaves.

Ingredients:



  • Frozen Mango pulp- 300g

  • Vanilla Matcha Powder- 30g

  • Almond Milk- 60ml


Method:



  • Blend all the above in a good blender for 2-3 min.

  • It will form into a nice ice cream-like texture which can be used as ready-to-eat or can be frozen and eaten later
