The Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) is set to captivate Indian audiences with the internationally acclaimed musical 'Mamma Mia!' this November. Penned by British playwright Catherine Johnson, the musical draws its inspiration from the iconic songs of the Swedish sensation ABBA. The musical's title is a homage to ABBA's chart-topping 1975 hit, 'Mamma Mia'.

This heartwarming tale weaves a story of love and friendship against the backdrop of a picturesque Greek island, all set to the timeless melodies of ABBA. Audiences can anticipate hearing legendary tracks such as 'Dancing Queen,' 'Super Trouper,' 'Honey, Honey,' 'Voulez-Vous,' 'Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!' and many more.

The magic of 'Mamma Mia!' has already been immortalized on the silver screen in a 2008 film adaptation featuring a stellar cast including Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, Pierce Brosnan, Amanda Seyfried, and Cher. Notably, the movie achieved the distinction of becoming the highest-grossing live-action musical film ever upon its release, according to information available on the NMACC website.

The NMACC also reported that the musical has enthralled more than 65 million spectators across the globe, across 50 productions presented in 16 different languages. Lauded as one of the most uplifting musicals, it has premiered in over 450 major cities worldwide.

For the uninitiated, this musical stands as one of the longest-running shows at London's West End theatre, which, alongside New York's Broadway theatre, is regarded as the pinnacle of commercial theatre in the English-speaking world.

'Mamma Mia!' will grace the stage at The Grand Theatre within NMACC, commencing on November 29, 2023. The show's runtime is approximately 2 hours and 25 minutes, featuring a 20-minute intermission.

As per details available on the NMACC website, showtimes are scheduled for 2 PM, 6:30 PM, and 7:30 PM. The production is open to children aged 7 and above, with the venue noted for its wheelchair-friendly facilities.

Tickets can be booked via Book My Show or the NMACC website. Prices range from INR 1,200 for the upper balcony to INR 21,250 to INR 32,500 for the premium diamond box seats.

For individuals with sensory sensitivities, it's important to be aware that this production incorporates theatrical haze, flashing lights, and fog effects.

Notably, NMACC has previously presented the award-winning Broadway musical 'The Sound of Music' to Indian audiences. At present, the centre is hosting the 'Infinity Room' by renowned Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, along with the 'Run As Slow As You Can' exhibit from Toilet Paper magazine.
