New Delhi: In recent times, many individuals are using aromatherapy and house scents to instil a sense of serenity and relaxation in their homes, which really works indeed. There is evidence to support the idea that scented candles and air fresheners with lavender in them may help reduce anxiety. Lavender is a great aroma because numerous studies have shown that it can aid in lowering anxiety and promoting better sleep and is a traditional natural cure for insomnia as well.

In this regard, ABP Live sought the opinions of experts who explained how lavender can reduce stress. Dr. Deepak Jain, who is the founder of 'The Fragrance People' said, "Research has shown that lavender oil can have calming effects on the nervous system, leading to reduced anxiety levels. When used in room fresheners or scented candles, the aroma of lavender can help to create a calming atmosphere, which may, in turn, help to reduce anxiety. In fact, a study published in the International Journal of Psychiatry in Clinical Practice found that using lavender essential oil for just 15 minutes significantly reduced anxiety levels in patients awaiting dental treatment."

"In addition to promoting relaxation and reducing anxiety, lavender-scented fragrances can also help to improve the quality of sleep. Lavender has been shown to increase the amount of time spent in deep sleep, which is essential for allowing your body to rest and rejuvenate.", he further elaborated.

In addition to him, Ms. Rohini Rajeev, who is the Sr. Psychotherapist  & Founder of 'The Able Mind' also shared her inputs and said, "Use this lovely herb to create an atmosphere of calm and benefit from its purported anti-inflammatory, antibacterial properties. While research on lavender and its short-term benefits in anxiety amelioration looks promising, given the lack of longitudinal data, we should consider it with caution.", she said.

Lastly, Mynoo Maryel, Life and Wellness Coach spoke about using only scented candles and room fresheners to utilize the benefits of lavender.

She said, "The key thing to know is that most room fresheners and scented candles use essential oil that is not organic. Oil dissolves in oil, and pesticides are oil-based, so most non-organic essential oils are infused with a higher-than-usual concentration of pesticides. Only use scented candles or room fresheners with organic pure lavender oils, otherwise, they cause harmful side effects. You land up breathing in pesticides with the fragrance of lavender."

The most popular form of lavender to be used is as an essential oil as it is known for its versatility. lt needs to be a pure, concentrated oil from the plant rather than just being infused with lavender. Make sure to read the entire ingredient list on the label to rule out any diluted or filler substances.
