A 15-year-old boy fell from the 8th floor of an under-construction building while carrying a cement bag on the stairs at Avadi on Monday. The Avadi police identified the child worker as Rahul from West Bengal. 


According to a report on Times of India, the boy was involved in the construction of residential quarters for central government staff.

On Monday, the boy was working till 10.30 pm and while he was climbing the stairs that did not have a railing he slipped and fell from the 8th floor of the building. 


The other workers immediately rushed the child to the hospital but the doctors declared him dead. The boy reportedly suffered severe head injuries due to the fall. 


For the past 6 months, Rahul from Ramakrishnapur village in Malda district of West Bengal has been working in construction sites in Chennai. However, he started working at Kendriya Vihar complex at Paruthipatty near Avadi only a few weeks ago. 


Based on the information, the police registered a case under the Act prohibiting child labour. They booked three people including a site engineer Gandhadasami, apartment manager Shahjakan and another person, said a report on The New Indian Express. 


The investigations are still on. 


In another mishap last month, a 23-year-old guest worker died after his head hit a pillar in a service lift at a godown in George Town. Keema Ram (23) of Rajasthan was assigned the task to take utensils from the top floor of the building in a service lift. While he was taking the service lift, he reportedly kept his head out and hit a pillar. He died on the spot.


Based on the information, the Flower Bazaar police reached the spot and recovered the body. They sent the body for post-mortem to a government hospital.
