New Delhi: There's hardly anything in the market that comes unadulterated these days. From spices to dairy products, there remains a big question mark on the quality of every food item.
Cooking oil is also no exception. Most of you might think that a good packaging by default ensures the good quality of the product, but that's not the case most often. People are not even aware of the degree of adultertaion and this in turn might lead to different health issues in the long run.
In this article, we try to talk about some of the kitchen hacks that might help you identify the fake oil from the real ones. To know more, read on.
Check the oil in this way
1. Take a little amount of mustard oil and refrigerate it for 2 to 3 hours. If you find a white colour substance floating on its surface, then the oil is fake.
2. Rubbing test is another good way to identify the purity of mustard oil. Put some oil on your palm and rub it vigorously. If you find any smell or color it means there are some greasy substances added in the oil and it's not 100% pure.
3. Take 5 grams of mustard oil in a test tube. Now add nitric acid to it. Shake the tube well. If the oil is pure, there will be no change in its colour. However, in case of adulteration, the color of the acidic layer will change from orange-yellow to red. This would help you tell the real from the fake ones.
