These women, who contribute to food production and rural and agricultural development globally, include moms, daughters, and grandparents who live in rural regions.

New Delhi: The International Day of Rural Women is celebrated annually by the United Nations, to recognise the important role that rural women play in the development of communities and societies. In many nations throughout the world, rural women are essential to the agricultural and food systems.

The basis of the celebration of International Day of Rural Women is gender equality and women's empowerment. These women, who contribute to food production and rural and agricultural development globally, include moms, daughters, and grandparents who live in rural regions. It serves as a reminder that if rural civilization is disregarded and left behind, the globe will not advance.

International Day Of Rural Women 2022: History

The advancement and welfare of women, particularly those in rural areas, is one of the U.N.'s most remarkable accomplishments.

The Fourth World Conference on Women was held in Beijing, China, in 1995, with the empowerment of women serving as the primary debate topic, then the  UN proposed designating October 15 as the International Day of Rural Women to recognise their contributions to agriculture, food production, and food safety.
Since this was formally recognised on December 18, 2007, several nations throughout the world have observed and celebrated the resilience and accomplishments of rural women despite the hardships and prejudices.

International Day Of Rural Women 2022: Significance

Over 3.5 billion, or roughly one-third of the world's population, are rural women. They are essential to the production of food as well as to the upkeep and support of families and communities.

Rural women, however, suffer a number of difficulties. Compared to their metropolitan counterparts, they frequently have fewer access to economic opportunities, financial services, education, and healthcare. They are also more prone to encounter prejudice and violence.

The latest problems with food and energy have simply made things worse. A UN Women research estimates that 23.7 billion people did not have access to enough food in 2020. This implied that an additional 3.2 billion people, or around 20%, were forced into starvation. Usually, rural women and children were the ones who took the most hit.

This day serves as a reminder to rural women that they are not alone and may always seek for assistance. There are millions more women in impoverished rural regions who require our assistance but are unable to ask for it or lack the resources to do so. We can provide them with a range of services, from fundamental facilities to financial aid.

It serves as a reminder to combat preconceptions and support women who defy societal and gender standards. Its important be the source of support for these women who are battling preconceptions and discrimination and assist them in overcoming societal hurdles and prejudice.
