New Delhi: From a mere childish intention to experiment with makeup after watching her aunt, to becoming a makeup influencer with a huge follower base, this is the story of the famous makeup artist Faby whose makeup videos have indeed taken the internet by storm. Faby, who grew up in Lucknow, began learning the skill by watching YouTube tutorials. She gradually started uploading her own videos to see how people reacted to them. Needless to say, her talent knew no bounds because, what started as an experiment almost a decade back, now has a base of more than 889K followers on Instagram.
In a chat with ABP Live, Faby spoke about her inspiration behind makeup. She said, "I was into make-up since childhood. When I was two years old, I used to watch my aunts doing their makeup, which I tried to replicate using my mom's lipstick. So I was really, really crazy for makeup and my parents were very supportive."
"But they wanted me to complete my academics and everything. So while in college, I used to watch YouTube videos to learn more about makeup after which I decided to give it a try and started uploading my videos where I was doing the makeup. So, I started about 10 years ago when I used to upload short one to two-minute videos and that's how my journey as a content creator started."
Faby is famous for the various looks she tries with makeup. If you scroll through her Instagram feed, you would definitely be mesmerized by her creativity and imagination. Out of all those, she had created an illusion on her face with multiple eyes, noses and lips, which according to her was the most difficult one till date.
In the conversation with ABP Live, Faby disclosed how she had done this using a bald cap, liquid lipsticks and mirror reflection. She also talked about the difficulties she faced while getting the look and said, "Having to put a bald cap on my head was the first challenge I had to overcome. Additionally, applying makeup on silicone is incredibly challenging since it won't sit well and I required separate paints for it. But, I still wanted to apply the same makeup. That was another challenge I had to overcome. Since eyeshadow wouldn't adhere to the silicone, I tried using liquid lipsticks to mimic the effect instead.
"The next challenge that I encountered was the fact that I had to draw four eyes: one above the ear, one on the chin, one on my cheek and one on the forehead. Now, drawing an eye above the ear was very challenging for me as I couldn't see anything, so I had to put a mirror and then use the reflection to create the eyes, nose and lip shape.", she went on to say.
Netizens were amazed to see such a look and they took to the comments section to pour in their views. One of them wrote, "Omgggggggg how do u doooooo thttttt", while another person said, "Your makeup skill is just fire.", adding two fire emojis to it. A third comment followed that said, "Mind-blowing."
Apart from this, she also spoke about the Pennywise look that she had tried to recreate. She said, "Whenever I'm recreating anything it is difficult and challenging compared to when I'm doing makeup in a freestyle way. When I am doing it in my own way, I know I'm the boss. I can do anything whatever I want to do.
She also spoke about the craziest thing she had done for makeup. Faby shared, "I recently saw a trend going where a girl did make-up using clay. So, I tried to replicate that using gems. It was again a very challenging thing I had to do. So I did it using the method of stop-motion."
"I had to show the process in a very smooth way and had to make it look like I actually did make-up using those gems. So, first I had to stick those gems, and then remove them. Following this, I had to apply the makeup in the same exact location where I had stuck the gem. It was difficult because I had glue all over my face. Hence, first I had to remove that glue, and then apply the makeup. So, that was quite challenging. But yet it was fun because giving the illusion of my creating a look with a food item was unique. The audience loved it as it was not a general kind of content, but an entertaining one."
Talking about her most viral reel later on, Faby said, "It was again an illusion look where I tried creating different nose shapes, like a Straight Nose, a deshaped nose etc. And, people wondered how I created the deshaped nose and they really loved it. They wanted to know how I did it, so I had to create a tutorial showing the process."
From an MBA in finance to becoming a full-on makeup artist, Faby shared her journey saying, "My journey was kind of pretty smooth as my parents are very supportive and that was a huge plus point. On the other hand, I don't have any siblings, so there is no one in between, which makes it just me and my parents. I did not want to do a 9 to 5 job, so I moved to Mumbai to pursue a career as a makeup artist.
Faby shared the makeup artists she looks up to, mentioning names like 'Nikki Tutotials', 'James Charles' and 'Michelle Son' in her list.
Additionally, she mentioned that she faces a lot of completion from budding make-up artists these days saying, "They are Gen Z's, so they are more active compared to what I am right now, because obviously, a millennial can't be super active and they can't think Like Gen-Zs. So, I have to catch up with the new trends, consume a lot of content and follow the new generation."
Lastly, Faby also shared 5 tips that people should keep in mind during makeup.
She told ABP Live, "People should always prep their skin very nicely for the makeup to sit properly and make them look flawless. Secondly, people should not overdo their makeup as it is often said that 'less is more'. In addition to that, people should also know how to layer makeup. For example, if you're using liquid stuff, you should lay it with powder. Finally, people should always take care of their hygiene. For instance, they should know the shelf life of the products and they should keep on sanitizing their lip liners and eyeliners their eyeshadows, as at times we get acne issues because we don't keep our makeup clean."
Faby is one of India’s top cosmetic stylists, and she recently teamed up with top Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone to promote a skincare line.
