New Delhi: Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai last week got married to Asser Malik, who works at Pakistan Cricket Board, in a small nikkah ceremony at her home in Birmingham.
Taking to Twitter to share the news of her marriage, Pakistani activist Yousafzai writes, "Today marks a precious day in my life. Asser and I tied the knot to be partners for life. We celebrated a small nikkah ceremony at home in Birmingham with our families. Please send us your prayers. We are excited to walk together for the journey ahead."
Earlier in 2015, Malala Yousafzai was shot in the head by the Pakistani Taliban for her fearless campaigning for girls’ education.
After her wedding, some people on social media pointed her interview to the British Vogue regarding her views on marriage. The views are contradictory as she in the interview said, "I still don’t understand why people have to get married. If you want to have a person in your life, why do you have to sign marriage papers, why can’t it just be a partnership?”
However, in her recent interview with the BBC, the Pakistani activist clarified that she was never against marriage. She further said that she had concerns regarding marriage due to this history of patriarchy and child marriages. She also praised her husband during the interview as she said that she found the one who understands her value.
