New Delhi: The Hindu New Year is known by different names in different communities. In Maharastra it is celebrated as Gudi Padwa, Kashmiri Hindus observe it as Navreh. For the Punjabi community it is known as Baisakh, Sindhis celebrate it as Cheti Chandi. In Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka it is celebrated as Ugadi where as in West Bengal it is known as Poila Baishakh.


The celebrations mark the start of the Hindu New Year as per the Luni-solar calendar.
