The festival of Makar Sankranti is just two days away. The festival of kites is all set to fall on January 14 this year. Sankranti is a festival day in the Hindu calendar, dedicated to the deity Surya.
It is observed each year in the lunar month of Magha which corresponds with the month of January as per the Gregorian calendar and is a day the people of India and Nepal celebrate their harvest. It marks the first day of the sun's transit into Makar Rashi (Capricorn), marking the end of the month with the winter solstice and the start of longer days.

The Hindu festival is celebrated across the country with different names like Maharashtra, Goa, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Karnataka, and Telangana.
The festival is celebrated with rituals like taking dips in holy rivers like Ganga, Yamuna etc and visiting temples. Kite flying is one of the major attractions of the day. The best part of the festival is it is donned with delicious and sumptuous meals.
