On the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday invoked Lord Hanuman’s blessings, hoping it would help the country in the “continuing fight” against the COVID-19 pandemic.


Greeting the people on Hanuman Jayanti, Modi tweeted: “The holy occasion of Hanuman jayanti is the day to recall the spirit of compassion and dedication of Lord Hanuman. I wish that his blessings are always upon us in the continuing fight against the COVID pandemic.



Celebrated by Hindus, the festival is dedicated to Lord Hanuman and observed across India and Nepal. On this day, devotees celebrate the birth of Lord Hanuman.


The day falls on the Purnima Tithi (Full Moon day) of Chaitra month and celebrated on Tuesday (April 27).


What's the importance of Purnima Tithi?


As per the Hindu calendar, the Purnima Tithi holds great importance as followers of Lord Hanuman celebrate his birth anniversary. Lord Hanuman was a devotee of Lord Rama.


Purnima Tithi's timings:


This year, the Chaitra Purnima Tithi will begin at 12.44 pm on 26 April and will end at 9.01 am on 27 April.


Hanuman Jayanti importance:


As per Hindu mythology, Lord Hanuman was an ardent follower of Lord Rama who always remained by his side as a friend and believer. Hanuman is also known as Ram Bhakt Hanuman. Devotees of Lord Hanuman offer special prayers to him seeking his and Lord Rama's blessings. There are numerous courageous tales depicting Hanuman's devotion to Lord Rama.


Lord Hanuman was born to Anjana, who was the wife of Vanaraja Kesari (the King of Monkeys). It is believed that Lord Hanuman is an incarnation of Lord Shiva. He is also known as Anjaneya, Maruti, and Bajrangbali.
