It is said that Father’s Day has been celebrated since 1910. A woman from Washington, Sonora Smart Dodd, was the first to start celebrating Father’s Day. Sonora’s mother had passed away, and she was her father’s only daughter. She also had a younger brother. Her father had taken on the responsibilities of both parents. She loved her father very much. One day, Sonora went to church and heard a sermon about Mother’s Day. During this time, she got the idea to celebrate a special day for her father, hence Father’s Day.

Sonora’s father was born in June, so she decided to celebrate this day in June. Sonora filed a petition to have this day celebrated in June and convinced the church members, getting signatures from two people. However, her petition was not approved. Despite this, due to her affection for her father, Sonora was determined to celebrate a special day for him since her mother was not there. Seeing Sonora, gradually other people also got inspired and began celebrating Father’s Day, and its practice started to grow. In 1916, American President Woodrow Wilson gave the green light to the suggestion of celebrating Father’s Day. Then, in 1966, President Lyndon B.
