The festive season is upon us, and it's the perfect time to indulge in joy, laughter, and yes, skincare. Whether you're dressing up for the holidays or ensuring your little ones have a fantastic time, taking care of your skin is essential to look and feel your best. Imagine your skin as a canvas awaiting the masterpiece of a joyful festive season. Just as artists need a pristine canvas, your skin deserves the best care to shine brightly during this time of celebration. Let's delve into the secrets of maintaining gorgeous, glowing skin amidst the dazzle and glamour of the festive season.

Skincare Tips To Keep In Mind During Diwali:

Dr. Pooja Aggarwal, who is a Consultant – Dermatology, Dermatology & Cosmetology, at Artemis Hospital, Gurugram said, "Diwali, brings a lot of joy and happiness, but it can also present certain challenges for your skin because of factors like air pollution, exposure to smoke, and dietary changes."

Here are some skincare tips to keep your skin healthy and glowing during Diwali, suggested by her:

  • Cleansing: In the morning, use a gentle and hydrating cleanser to remove any impurities that may have accumulated on your skin overnight. Post celebration, cleanse your face to remove pollutants and residue.

  • Hydration: Stay well-hydrated by drinking plenty of water or use a hydrating facial mist for healthy and moisturized skin.

  • Sun Protection: Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30, even if you are indoors, as UV rays can penetrate windows. Reapply sunscreen every few hours if you're out during the day.

  • Makeup Considerations: Opt for minimal makeup as it allows your skin to breathe. Use long-lasting, smudge-proof makeup to maintain your look throughout the day and night.

  • Diet and Nutrition: Diwali means lots of sweets and oily foods. Try maintaining a balanced diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables to nourish your skin from within. Avoid consuming excessive sweets and oily snacks, as they can cause breakouts and skin issues.

  • Night-time Routine: At the end of the day, remove makeup, cleanse, and moisturize to help your skin repair and regenerate.

  • Eye Care: Sleep well to avoid dark circles and puffiness around the eyes. In case of exposure to smoke, rinse your eyes with clean, cool water to soothe irritation.

  • Prevent using Harsh Scrubs: Avoid using harsh exfoliating scrubs during Diwali, as they can strip your skin of essential oils. Go for gentle exfoliation once or twice a week.

Skincare Tips For Kids:

According to Akanksha Sharma, who is the Co-founder & CEO, of CITTA, "Ensure you and your baby stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Moisturise daily with a moisturizing baby balm to combat the drying effects of the changing seasons. Opt for gentle, natural, and allergen-free baby products to protect your little one's sensitive skin. Keep a watchful eye on your baby's skin for any irritations and consult a pediatrician if needed."

Here are some tips that she shared to protect your and your little one’s skin from pollution:

With pollution levels on the rise, protecting your skin has become paramount. Invest in a good quality sunscreen with at least SPF 30 to shield your skin from harmful UV rays. A daily cleansing routine, using a mild cleanser, helps to remove pollutants that accumulate on your skin. For your baby, consider using a protective barrier moisturizer like a baby balm that has natural oils to minimize skin contact with pollutants.

Diwali Safety Tips For Newborns

Kinjal Popat, who is the COO and Co-Founder, R for Rabbit said, "If you have just been blessed with a baby or your baby just got a year old, it is a special and joyous occasion for the new parents and the  entire family. With new faces, voices and sounds, lights twinkling everywhere, Diwali for your baby can be a new experience altogether. It is a time when the child may enjoy the vivid colors, delicious sweets,  and dazzling fireworks that make Diwali such a wonderful time of year. Although the infant may not completely understand the significance of the festivities, their pure smile and curious eyes offer an added  layer of joy to the celebrations."

In this festive moment, your baby's safety is one of the most important things to remember. Here are a  few tips shared by her to help you make your baby's Diwali safe and memorable.

  • Dress babies in comfortable clothes - Diwali falls in the winter, so dress your child in breathable  layers and protect their head, neck, and hands. Also, remember to apply baby lotion, as it will  keep the baby's skin nourished.

  • Baby-proof Home - Don't forget to baby-proof your home, paying particular attention to wiring.  Check for any loose or bare wires.

  • Minimal Noise - Ensure that the noise level around your baby during Diwali celebrations is  minimal, as loud noises can be distressing for them.

  • Keep Baby Indoor - The baby's room's doors and windows should remain closed. Be cautious not  to expose your child to toxic fumes during Diwali festivities to protect them from smoke, dust,  pollution and loud noises from the firecrackers.

  • Avoid Sweets & Savoury Food - Don't offer the infant sweets or savoury foods, and stick to the  baby's eating schedule. Dry fruits are strictly prohibited for infants under the age of one year.  Babies may even choke on these foods if left alone.

  • Safe Distance from Fireworks - Babies that have begun crawling or walking may attempt to go  towards lights. You should keep firecrackers, lit diyas and agarbattis out of your baby's reach to  prevent accidents or burns.

  • Safety from allergy - You may be unaware that certain flowers can cause allergic reactions and  contain little insects. Always sprinkle flowers with water before bringing them inside.

  • First-aid Availability – Maintain a first-aid kit available to avoid injury or burns, and always keep  a bucket of water nearby to put out unexpected flames.
