Happy Choti Holi Wishes 2022: People are geared up to celebrate Holi this year after festivities remained muted for almost two years due to pandemic. Today marks the first day of the colour festival observed as Chhoti Holi or Holika Dahan.
Holi is the second biggest Hindu festival after Diwali. Celebrated at the end of winter after the full Moon in the month of Phalgun, the festival marks the start of the harvest season. The celebrations of Holi go on for two days.

Significance of Choti Holi
People lit bonfire on Holika Dahan and a special Puja is performed to mark the occasion and to burn evil spirits. The second day is known as Dhuleti or Holi, which is marked by people exchanging sweets and mingling with loved ones.
Choti Holi is linked to the story of Demon King Hiranyakashipu, his son Prahlad and sister Holika. For many traditions in Hinduism, Choti Holi is observed because Holika was burnt by Vishnu in order to save Prahlad, who was a devotee of Lord Vishnu. The night before Holi, pyres are burnt in North India, Nepal and parts of South India in keeping with this tradition. The fire burnt on the eve of Holi (Holika Dahan) symbolizes the burning of Holika.
