Global Day Of Parents 2024: History 


The origins of Global Day of Parents date back to 1983 when the Economic and Social Council and the Commission for Social Development urged the Secretary-General to focus on family-related issues.


The United Nations' focus on family issues in the 1980s led to the declaration of the International Year of the Family in 1994 and the observance of the International Day of Families on May 15 each year.


On September 17, 2012, the United Nations declared June 1 as the Global Day of Parents, with the first celebration occurring in 2013, marking a significant milestone in recognising parents' roles worldwide.

This year the theme is 'The Promise of Playful Parenting' and throughout the month of June, United Nations Children’s Fund and its partners will advocate for expert advise and support for parents, condisting of a broad range of topics from the scientific foundations of play to engaging activities for the entire family.
