New Delhi: Ganesh puja has special importance in Hinduism. Lord Ganesh is known as the God of new beginnings, and Ganesh Chaturthi, the festival dedicated to the deity, is celebrated with much fervour. It s one of the most important festivals in the country.

According to Panchang, Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated every year on the fourth day of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month. This year, Ganesh Chaturthi is on September 10. Ganpati will be installed for Ganesh puja on this day, which is marked as Lord Ganesh's birthday.

Devotees celebrate the festival by installing idols of Lord Ganesha at home. It is believed that this pleases the elephant-headed God who then fulfills the wishes of his followers. The Ganeshotsav that begins with Ganesh Chaturthi concludes on Chaturdashi tithi. The last day of the festival is also known as Anant Chaturdashi.

Shubh Muhurat for Ganpati Sthapana

Ganpati should be installed at an auspicious moment. According to Panchang, Ganpati Bappa can be installed between 12:17 pm and 10 pm on September 10. There is a religious belief that the installation of Ganpati on the auspicious moment fills the home with happiness.

Puja Vidhi: For Ganesha puja, devotees take a bath before sunrise and wear clean clothes. They then sit in front of Ganesha the idol and start the puja by first giving a holy bath to the idol with Ganga water.  Ganesha is then offered akshat, flowers, durva etc, and his favourite sweet modak. Devotees then light dhoop, diya and agarbattis and perform an aarti, chant Ganesh mantras. The puja ends with another round of aarti.
