Flower jewellery is something that most of us see at festivals, but it is not something that we wear frequently. However, this is changing as people are becoming more aware of the power and beauty of nature. Women are now embracing natural elements like flowers with open arms. The trend of flower jewellery has been on a steady rise in India over the last few years.
Flowers can be worn in a variety of ways, from simple earrings to intricate hair vines and kada pendants. Milind Mathur, Creative Director & Partner at Kohinoor Jewellers Agra, explains all you need to know about this trend:
Flower jewellery
Flower jewellery is any jewellery that is made out of flowers. This can include flowers that are pressed and made into jewellery or a piece of jewellery made out of flowers. There are many different ways to incorporate flowers into a piece of jewellery — everything from earrings to rings and even pendants
Diamond Floral Jewellery
Indian designers first popularised flower jewellery at the end of the 20th century. There were two reasons for the popularity of this trend: The high cost of diamonds and the lack of diamonds in the Indian market Diamonds have always been a popular choice for jewellery, but they are also very expensive. Flower jewellery was a cheaper alternative to diamonds and quickly became popular among Indian women. Indian women have always cherished the natural beauty of their surroundings and have revered flowers as a symbol of beauty and love.
Blossoms In Jewellery: You can use freshly cut flowers to create beautiful jewellery. You can either make a bouquet or use flowers that are pressed. - Pressed flowers: Flowers can be pressed and used as a component in your jewellery. This is a great way to preserve a flower for a longer period of time. You can use pressed flowers to make pieces such as pendants, earrings and necklaces.
Another industry expert, Rohan Sharma, Managing Director of RK Jewellers South Extension 2, explained the trend's emergence by saying that flower jewellery has long been an important part of Indian culture. Flowers used in jewellery are a popular theme in Indian weddings. Flower jewellery is a trend that is here to stay, thanks to the rise in eco-friendly fashion.
"People are increasingly preferring flowers to diamonds and other gems because they are a beautiful part of nature, are relatively inexpensive, and are environmentally friendly," he added.
He also suggested a few ways and tips to utilise flower jewellery:
Wrapped Flowers: If you don’t want to use freshly cut flowers, you can wrap flowers with thread and make a pendant or earrings out of them. This is a great way to use flowers that are not in season. You can also use flowers that are toxic so they don’t spoil easily.
Resin Jewellery: Resin is a great way to create a flower jewellery piece that is long-lasting and not so delicate. You can create pendants, rings and earrings out of resin.
Tips For Wearing Flower Jewellery:
Choose The Right Flower: Not all flowers are suitable for flower jewellery. Some flowers need to be preserved with chemicals and are not very eco-friendly. Carnations are a great choice for a high-quality and eco-friendly flower used in flower jewellery.
Choose Wedding Flowers Wisely: Make sure to select garden flowers for your bridal jewellery. You can cut blossoms from your garden and use them to make beautiful bridal jewellery. Roses are one of the most common wedding flowers, but it’s best to choose other flowers so your jewellery is different from the rest.
Choose The Right Jewellery Piece: It’s best to use a necklace or earrings rather than a ring as it will be easier to clean and maintain. Make sure to clean your jewellery regularly to remove any dust or bacteria that may have been collected on it.
