Muslims Converge At Srinagar Church To Celebrate Christmas

Wearing Santa hats, a group of Muslims on Sunday converged at a church in Srinagar, distributed sweets and exchanged greetings as Christmas was celebrated in Kashmir with traditional enthusiasm and religious fervour. 


The members of the miniscule population of Christians in Kashmir thronged the churches for Mass at many places. The biggest Mass was held at the Holy Family Catholic Church at Maulana Azad Road, where dozens of Christians, including women and children, assembled to celebrate the birthday of Jesus Christ and held special prayers. 


The church was decorated with colourful buntings, lights and balloons and it wore a festive look. 


A group of Muslims also celebrated Christmas at the church to give a message of communal harmony. They wore Santa hats, distributed sweets and exchanged greetings. 


The group members said they came to the church to spread the message of communal harmony, brotherhood and peace.  (PTI)

Sudarsan Pattnaik Creates Santa Claus Sculpture With 1500 Kg Tomatoes

Popular sand artist and Padma Shree awardee Sudarsan Pattnaik created sand art of Santa Claus made with tomatoes on Gopalpur beach in Odisha on the occasion of Christmas. 1.5 tons of tomatoes have been used in the installation of this piece, the artist revealed. 


The sculpture is 27ft high and 60 ft wide in size. Pattnaik also had the help of his students who joined hands with him to complete it in time. Pattnaik posted a video on Twitter showcasing the Santa Claus that he and his students have created together. Take a look at the video here.

Churches Across India Hold Midnight Mass

Midnight mass prayers were held in churches across India. The mass is held in remembrance of the birth of Jesus Christ. The tradition sees the faithful gather in churches on Christmas Eve for a service, which usually starts just before midnight. The tradition is believed to have started from about 430AD in the Basilica of St Mary Major under Pope Sixtus III. In Vatican City, the midnight mass takes place inside St. Peter's Basilica every year.

Christmas 2022: CM Kejriwal Leads Celebrations At Delhi Assembly

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday led the annual Christmas and New Year celebrations at the Delhi Legislative Assembly premises. The celebrations were organised by Speaker Ram Niwas Goel under the initiative of celebrating festivals of all faiths in the Vidhan Sabha. "India's speciality is its unity despite the diversity of its cultures, languages, castes and religions. Jesus Christ dedicated every moment of his life to the service of the poor, sick, and downtrodden; we should take inspiration from his life," the Chief Minister said. "We have people from different faiths who practise their traditions, their culture and speak in different languages. Yet, we are one nation. It is just like a hand that has different fingers, but they all combine to form a strong punch. 30-Ft Tall Christmas Tree In Kolkata's Park Street Draws Crowds

A 30-foot tall Christmas tree has added to the sparkle of Park Street, the year-end festival hub of Kolkata, which will be illuminated till January 3 next year. Next to the Christmas tree, which has a diameter of 18 feet, is a replica of baby Jesus Christ in his crib. There is also a eight-foot tall Santa Claus with glowing snow bears standing next to the dazzling Christmas tree, wishing everyone a Merry Christmas, with an eight-foot tall snowman watching from the other side. The entire area is illuminated with star lights, rice lights, light-up balls and upside-down umbrella lights. (IANS)

King Charles III To Pay Tribute To Mother's Legacy In First Christmas Message

King Charles III will pay tribute to his late mother Queen Elizabeth II's legacy in his first-ever traditional Christmas Day message as the British king.


In a photo shared by Buckingham Palace, the 74-year-old can be seen standing next to a Christmas tree at St. George's Chapel in Windsor Castle earlier this month, recording the message that will be broadcast on Sunday evening.


The British monarch's Christmas broadcast has a long history and is targeted at people all around the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.


It will be the first annual royal Christmas Day presentation not to feature the late Queen Elizabeth II, who featured in the inaugural televised speech in 1957.


St. George’s Chapel marks a change of scene from the messages recorded by the Queen, who would traditionally be seated and surrounded by photos of her family in a palace room.

After Two Years Of Covid Restrictions, Christmas Spirit Grips Northeast: Report

After celebrating Christmas behind closed doors or in a limited capacity owing to the Covid-19 epidemic in 2020 and 2021, the festivities resumed earlier this week with considerable zeal in the northeastern region. Pre-Christmas gatherings, shopping, and church and other building decorations were seen in numerous locations throughout the region.


Christmas celebrations in the northeastern region were relatively low-key in 2020 and 2021 due to various Covid-related limitations.


However, in most of the eight northeastern states, the exchanging of advance Christmas greetings and mini-celebrations began two days ago in various government, non-government, and municipalities.
