New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday extended their greetings to the nation on the occasion of Buddha Purnima. The day marks the birth anniversary of Gautam Buddha. This day is also known as Vaisakhi Buddha Purnima or Vesak.
Stressing the need to follow the teachings of Lord Buddha, President Ram Nath Kovind tweeted in Hindi saying, “Lord Buddha showed humanity the path of non-violence, compassion and tolerance. His teachings are more relevant today.”
Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu extended his greetings to the citizens and tweeted: “Lord Buddha preached the most profound truths. His teachings were aimed at finding the root cause of our sorrows & liberating the sentient beings from suffering.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a day-long visit to Lumbini on the occasion of Buddha Purnima, also recalled the principles of Lord Buddha saying, “On Buddha Purnima, we recall the principles of Lord Buddha and reiterate our commitment to fulfil them."
Countries such as Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Cambodia, Java, Indonesia, Tibet, and Mongolia, observe this special day as ‘Vesak’ which calls for an elaborate celebration.
