Dr. Rucha Kaushik, who is a Consultant Breast Cancer Surgeon, at P. D. Hinduja Hospital & Medical Research Centre, Mahim talked about the risk factors of deeloping breast cancer.

 

She said, "There are various risk factors for developing breast cancer which are known well such as being a female ,increasing age ,not having kids,not breast feeding babies ,obesity ,smoking alcohol intake etc"

 

Role Of Vitamin D In Breast Cancer Development:

In this regard, Dr. Divya Singh, who is a Senior Surgeon, at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and Director, Maaiya Social Change Front Foundation said, "The advancements and developments in the realm of cancer prevention have uncovered the significant impact of Vitamin D on it. Research findings from diverse sources have indicated that maintaining optimal Vitamin D levels might lower the risk of developing breast cancer. Studies exploring the link between Vitamin D and breast cancer have suggested that women with higher levels of Vitamin D might have a reduced risk of developing breast cancer; on the contrary, Vitamin D deficiency could be linked to a higher likelihood of breast cancer occurrence. While more extensive research is underway to delve deeper into these findings, the implications are promising."


Additionally, Rohit Shelatkar, who is a Fitness and Nutrition Expert, at VP Vitabiotics Ltd. said, "Vitamin D’s role in regulating autophagy emerges as a potential mechanism underpinning the connection between Vitamin D levels and breast cancer. Additionally, Vitamin D may also play a crucial role in moderating breast cell growth, specifically suppressing the growth of cancer cells. Moreover, studies have reported a beneficial impact of vitamin D supplementation in preventing breast cancer. Furthermore, various clinical studies have showcased that vitamin D supplementation enhances the response to anticancer medications and improves disease-free survival."

Dr. Divya Singh said, "To harness the potential benefits of vitamin D in breast cancer prevention, it is essential for individuals, especially women, to be mindful of their Vitamin D levels. Dietary sources of Vitamin D, such as fatty fish, fortified dairy products, and egg yolks, can contribute to maintaining healthy levels. However, sunlight remains one of the most abundant and natural sources of this vital nutrient. Spending a moderate amount of time outdoors, soaking in the sunlight, can aid in Vitamin D synthesis."
