ATM fraud cases have been on the rise for the past few years. Cyber thugs commit fraud in various ways. Thugs empty the customer's account by stealing people's ATM pins and cloning ATMs. RBI and other banks often issue alerts from time to time to warn customers. Fraud can be avoided by taking certain precautions while using an ATM.
Keep these things in mind.
- You should check the place where the card is inserted into the machine properly while withdrawing money from the ATM machine. - Cyber thugs often scan ATM cards by installing cloning devices at this place.
- Before entering your ATM PIN number, check the keypad carefully to see if there is a camera or chip.
- Cover the keypad with the other hand when entering your ATM PIN number.
- If you swipe your card somewhere, first check which bank the POS machine belongs to. - Check the swipe area and keypad.
- Use an emv chip-based card instead of a magnetic card as it will give encrypted information when the card is scanned or cloned.
- Do not save your card details to another wallet. - If the POC machine makes transactions without OTP at the time of shopping, get a transaction card issue through OTP from the bank.
- You should use ATMs manned by a guard as far as possible to withdraw money.
- You should set a withdrawal limit on your card so that a large amount of money cannot be withdrawn in case of a fraudulent incident.
