A 28-year-old man, believed to be mentally unstable, was arrested on Friday for throwing stones at the Vande Bharat Express, damaging two of its windows, as the train approached Thrissur railway station, police reported.


The incident occurred around 9:30 am when the train was entering platform 2 of the station, according to an officer from Thrissur Railway Police Station. Fortunately, no passengers were injured.


The Vande Bharat Express was en route from Thiruvananthapuram to Kasaragod.


The man was apprehended, and a case has been filed against him under various provisions of the IPC and the Indian Railway Act, the officer stated.


The officer, as per PTI said, "The man is not talking much and appears to be mentally unsound. He is not a local resident. He has been seen before in the area. He has been seen randomly boarding trains from one place to the other.


"We have given him food and water. We are going to take him for a medical examination and after that he will be produced in court where we will request that he be admitted to a mental health facility," he added.






In March 2024, another incident of stone pelting on Vande Bharat Express took place in Karnataka. The incident occurred at 6:15 am when train no. 20661, the Dharwad Vande Bharat Express, was pelted with stones after passing Chikkabanavara railway station. The second incident happened at 3:20 pm when train no. 20662 was running from Dharwad to Bangalore City Junction.


On the night of February 4, the Chennai–Tirunelveli Vande Bharat Express had its glass windows in six coaches damaged when unidentified individuals threw stones at the train. The incident occurred around 10 p.m. as the Vande Bharat Express was traveling between Gangaikondan and Naraikinaru stations. The train had departed from Chennai Egmore Station at 2:50 p.m. when it came under attack.
