Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to kick start the official campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Kerala on Wednesday. He will address a massive gathering of 2 lakh women at the convention named 'Sthree Shakthi Modikk Oppam' (Empower Women with Modi), scheduled to take place at the expansive Thekkinadu ground in Thrissur district. This event is perceived by the BJP in the state as the official launch of the party's election campaign for the impending polls.

The BJP has been striving to establish a presence in Kerala, a state traditionally dominated by the CPI(M)-led LDF and Congress-led UPF.

Kerala BJP also organised the convention to congratulate the PM for successfully passing the Women's Reservation Bill in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

The mass gathering will include women from diverse backgrounds including anganwadi teachers, MGNREGA, artists and social and cultural activists. BJP state chief K Surendran said women from various walks of life, including prominent personalities who have made their mark in various fields, would attend the event of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Thrissur.

"Actress-danseuse Shobhana, cricketer Minnu Mani, entrepreneur Beena Kannan, singer Vaikom Vijayalakshmi and Mariyakutty, who raised her voice against corruption and red tapism, will be among those who will share the venue with the PM," Surendran told reporters in Thrissur, according to a report on PTI.

The state leadership of the BJP has affirmed that several national leaders will visit the southern state in the coming months to engage with the public in anticipation of the Lok Sabha polls. The choice of Thrissur as the location for the large-scale event is noteworthy, as it is one of the constituencies where the party aims for a strong performance in the upcoming elections.
