Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Droupadi Murmu, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan and several other leaders extended their greetings on the 10-day Thiruvonam festival on Tuesday. The people of Kerala celebrated the festival with religious fervor and cultural richness. Onam signifies the start of the harvest and King Mahabali's return to his native Kerala and his loving people. 


Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), Prime Minister Narendra Modi, "Onam greetings to everyone! May your lives be showered with good health, unparalleled joy and immense prosperity. Over the last many years, Onam has become a global festival and it beautifully showcases the vibrant culture of Kerala."






President of India Droupadi Murmu said, "Greetings to all fellow citizens and our brothers and sisters in Kerala on Onam! On this auspicious occasion, we express our gratitude to Mother nature for the countless bounties. May this harvest festival usher in prosperity and the spirit of harmony among all."


The Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan pitched to celebrate Onam beyond caste and religious divisions. CM said, "Onam is a celebration of prosperity, brotherhood and equality. Onam should inspire us to strengthen human unity beyond caste and religious divisions. Celebrations should be a gathering of minds that are not contaminated by divisive thoughts. Happy Onam with love to all."


Politicians and public celebrate Onam


Former Rajya Sabha MP and actor Suresh Gopi started the Onam celebrations at Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram. During the event, Prince Adithya Varma of the Travancore royal family also took part in the celebrations.






The festival of Onam is being celebrated with full fervor in Thiruvananthapuram. The people of Kerala have arranged several cultural events including dance and tug-of-war among others.
