Kerala police registered a case over the malfunctioning of a microphone that interrupted the speech of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The case has created a stir in Kerala. The incident took place for a few seconds during a program held to remember the late Congress leader Oommen Chandy.
On Tuesday, Cantonment police registered a case on the issue. However, no one has been implicated in the case. The police yet recorded the statement of the microphone operator. The amplifier, cable and other equipment used during the program were confiscated.
On Monday evening, a program was organised by Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee to commemorate Chandy, who died in Bengaluru last week, at Ayyankali Hall.
Kerala police registered a case under Kerala Police Act Section 118 (e) for causing danger to public or failure in public safety.
A senior police officer told PTI, "No complaint was received about the malfunctioning of the microphone but the case was registered as per the instructions from the higher-ups."
The equipment was sent for a detailed scientific examination by the Electrical Division of the state Public Works Department, he said.
The officer said that the case was just a technical matter and they have been directed by higher-ups to confirm if the malfunctioning of the microphone during the CM's speech was due to any technical snag.
For that, he said that they have to send the equipment for scientific examination.
According to him, the state-run agencies would only be prepared for any such scientific analysis only if the request was presented along with the registered crime number and other pertinent information.
He said that there was no need for any controversy.
Meanwhile, Renjith, the microphone operator expressed concern over registering a case on the matter.
