A low-intensity explosion was reported in Bavode near Chakkarakkal in the Kannur district of Kerala on Monday morning. Police sources stated that the explosion involved ice-cream ball-shaped containers filled with explosive materials, amidst ongoing tension between BJP and CPI (M) activists over local matters.


The blast occurred in an area where police personnel were already present, police said, PTI quoted saying. Chakkarakkal police initiated an inquiry into the incident.


As per the ANI reports, A bomb squad along with a dog squad conducted a search operation. However, it has not been identified who threw the bomb.

On Sunday, there was a reported confrontation between supporters of the ruling CPI(M) and the BJP concerning the Chakarakal Bavot temple festival, according to the news agency. Subsequently, police patrols in the region were increased.





CPI-M Workers Assualt Congress' Booth Agent


In another instance, CPI-M workers allegedly assaulted a Congress booth agent, Rajith Kumar P (32), an assistant professor in the Department of Commerce at the Co-operative Arts and Science College in Madayi with iron rods including the party's branch secretary in Kannur last month during the Lok Sabha elections. He was attacked on April 30 while riding his motorcycle home at around ten o'clock at night.


"They stopped me around 200 meters from my home at Korom near Maniyara. They hit my head with iron rods and punched my back. I was saved because I was wearing a helmet," said Rajith Kumar, ANI reported.


Later, after the assault, he was admitted to the Priyadarshini Hospital in Payyannur.





A case has been registered under sections 341,323,324,34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Five accused people were named in the FIR: Suresh TT, Ajaayn TV, Mahesh Iruttan, Suresh VV, and Pranav TV.
