Heavy rainfall that has affected normal life continues in Kochi. The heavy rainfall has thrown life out of gear in the district. The roads are flooded and houses in low-lying areas have been inundated. The district administration on Tuesday declared a holiday for educational institutions in the district. 


The district collector said that the rain holiday will be extended on Wednesday. District Collector NSK Umesh said, “All educational institutions including professional colleges in Ernakulam district will remain closed tomorrow due to excessive rainfall in the region. All mining operations have been suspended until further notice.”

The India Meteorological Department said that squally weather with wind speed reaching 45-55 Kmph gusting to 65 Kmph is likely to prevail over Kerala coast.


In a release, IMD said, “Squally weather with wind speed reaching 45-55 Kmph gusting to 65 Kmph is likely to prevail over South Tamilnadu coast, Gulf of Mannar &adjoining Comorin area, Southeast Arabian Sea. Squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-45 Kmph gusting to 55 Kmph is likely to prevail over Eastcentral Arabian Sea, Southwest Bay of Bengal off Sri Lanka coast, North Tamilnadu coast, Northern parts of Southwest Bay of Bengal, adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea.”

“Squally wind with speed reaching 45-55 Kmph gusting to 65 Kmph is likely to prevail over Southern parts of Southwest, Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Eastcentral Bay of Bengal,” it said. 


The IMD said that heavy rainfall to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places in Kerala on July 3, 5 and 5. IMD said, "Heavy rainfall (7cm to 11cm in 24 hours) to very heavy rainfall (12cm to 20cm in 24 hours) is very likely to occur at isolated places in Kerala on 06th July 2023. Heavy rainfall (7cm to 11cm in 24 hours) is very likely to occur at isolated places in Kerala on July 7 and in Lakshadweep on July 3 & 4 2023."
