Days after the murder of Dr Vandana Das by a patient in Kerala, another patient turned violent and attempted to attack a male doctor at a state-run medical college in Kochi on Monday. Based on the information, the police arrived at the spot and arrested the accused.

According to a report on PTI, the accused went to a government medical college for treatment after he suffered injuries in a road accident on Monday.

The hospital staff said that the accused initially acted in a weird manner and after some time he tried to manhandle the doctor who came to treat him. The accused was identified as Doyal (24), a native of Vattekunnam in Edapally.

In a viral video of the incident, Doyal was seen arguing and threatening the doctor and other hospital staff. The other persons who accompanied him were seen trying to calm him down but he continued to behave rudely with the healthcare workers.

The security personnel of the hospital reportedly then rushed for help and controlled the accused.

The hospital management then alerted Kalamassery police.

A senior police officer told PTI that various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Hospital Protection Act were slapped on the accused.

“His arrest was recorded under IPC Sections 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 294 (b) (use abusive words) and 506 (criminal intimidation) besides the sections of the Hospital Protection Act. He will be produced before court today,” the officer said, as per the report.

The incident has once again sent a shock wave in the state. Kerala witnessed a gruesome murder of a doctor by a man who was brought to the hospital by police for a mandatory medical checkup.

Dr Vandana Das, a native of Kaduthuruthy area of Kottayam district and a house surgeon at Azeezia Medical College Hospital, was stabbed several times by the accused at Kottarakkara taluk hospital on May 10.
