Kerala: Man Assaults Hospital Staff Over MRI Appointment

The accused was charged under multiple sections of Kerala Healthcare Services Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for attacking the female government medical college employee, according to officials.

A man attacked a female employee of a government medical college in Thiruvananthapuram after failing to secure an appointment for an MRI scan on Tuesday. The victim, Jayakumari, suffered facial injuries in the attack and was subsequently hospitalized, according to the police. Jayakumari was an employee of MRI scan department. 

The Medical College police informed PTI that the incident occurred when the accused, Anil, arrived for an MRI scan. At 12:20 PM, Jayakumari was assaulted with a kada bangle, resulting in facial fractures. She was promptly taken to the hospital's emergency ward. Following the assault, Anil, a resident of Poovar, was arrested by the police.

Quoting the female employee, the police stated that he assaulted her without any provocation simply because he didn't secure an appointment.

According to reports, the altercation began when Anil arrived at the scanning department for an MRI scan, as instructed by the doctor. However, Jayakumari, who was on duty, informed him that only emergency scans were authorized by the doctors. Enraged, Anil attacked Jayakumari with a bangle, according to a report on Manorama.

"He punched her on the face.. and the woman suffered injuries in the unexpected attack. She is admitted to the hospital and is normal now," they said, as per a report on PTI.

In a village in Kottayam district of Kerala last year, a man was charged with misbehaving with a female doctor at a government health facility. The accused intercepted the doctor as she was leaving to have a quick meal after working in the treatment room since early morning. He proceeded to verbally abuse her, causing her to faint.

Following this, police registered a case and booked him under various sections of Kerala Healthcare Service Persons and Healthcare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage to Property) Act.
