A groom who opted to express support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his wedding card found himself in soup in Karnataka during the Lok Sabha Elections 2024. The matter gained attention after the Election Commission took notice after the issue sparked a political controversy in the state.

In the wedding card, the groom reportedly used the tagline 'The best present you will give the couple is electing Modi as PM once again'.

The wedding card became a controversy since it was distributed after the implementation of Model Code of Conduct. Following the visit of EC officials to the groom's home in Puttur taluk, Karnataka, on April 14, he clarified that the invitations had been printed on March 1, prior to the announcement of election dates for a wedding scheduled on April 18.

He also emphasized that the tagline was a gesture of admiration for PM Modi. Despite the groom's clarification, EC lodged a complaint with Uppinangady police on April 26.

Following this, an FIR was registered against him at Uppinangady police station in Puttur taluk of Dakshina Kannada.

Besides the groom, the press owner accountable for printing the invitation is also under scrutiny by the EC.

In another incident in Telangana's Hyderabad, a couple printed the picture of PM Modi on their wedding card.

The father of the groom took the initiative, encouraging guests not to bring gifts but to vote for PM Modi instead, labeling it the 'best gift' on the invitation card.

Meanwhile, repolling was conducted "peacefully" at a polling station in Indiganatha village of Hanur, situated within the Chamarajanagar Lok Sabha constituency in Karnataka, on Monday.

This came after a clash between groups on Friday caused damage to EVMs, prompting the need for a re-election.
