Kerala Mahila Congress started a 12-hour fast in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday condemning the brutal murder of Dr Vandana Das while she was on her duty at Kottarakara Taluk hospital last week. Dr Vandana Das was murdered by an accused brought to the hospital by police for a mandatory medical checkup.


According to ANI, “Kerala | Women workers of the Congress party held a protest in Thiruvananthapuram regarding the murder of Dr Vandana Das.”

Talking to ANI, Congress Mahila Morcha President Jeby Methar said, "Congress Mahila Morcha is observing a 12-hour hunger protest from 6 AM to 6 PM against the murder of Dr Vandana and the demand to protect the life of health workers and doctors."


"We stand with health workers and doctors and with their demand to bring an ordinance and install cameras in hospitals," she said.


Congress Mahila Morcha also said that the young doctors in the state are in fear after the murder of Dr Vandana. "Congress Mahila Morcha is with doctors and health workers who are sitting on a protest in front of Kerala Secretariat to ensure safety and security for doctors in their workplace and also to get justice for Dr Vandana," she said.


Dr Vandana (23) was murdered by the accused identified as S Sandeep (42). When Sandeep was brought to the hospital, the accused reportedly got access to a scissor and once Dr Vandana started to administer the wounds he stabbed her multiple times. Vandana was rushed to KIMS Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram but she succumbed to her injuries. 


On Wednesday, Kottarakkara magistrate court remanded the accused G Sandeep for 14 days. Further investigations are on.
