New Delhi: Kerala High Court on Thursday dismissed anticipatory bail plea filed by gold smuggling case accused Swapna Suresh and co-accused Sarith PS in the conspiracy case. Former Kerala Minister KT Jaleel registered a complaint against Swapna's allegations against him. The prosecution told the court that the charges against Swapna were bailable.

Single Bench of Justice Viju Abraham dismissed the plea after recording the Public Prosecutor's submission that Sarith was not even implicated in the crime and therefore the anticipatory bail plea is not maintainable, according to a news agency ANI update.

Meanwhile, the Kerala police handed over the case to the crime branch and formed a 12-member team to investigate the complaint of Jaleel accusing conspiracy behind gold smuggling case accused Swapna's allegations. Police on Wednesday lodged a case against the key accused in the gold smuggling case under Sections 153 (giving provocation with intent to cause a riot) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC.

In his petition, Jaleel has also cited the name of PC George for trying to hatch a conspiracy against the ruling LDF government. He called the allegations levelled against him baseless. "This is a BJP & UDF conspiracy. They are trying to tarnish the image of the existing govt. This conspiracy should be investigated," news agency ANI said, quoting former Kerala Minister and CPI (M) leader Jaleel.
