A Kerala woman doctor, who was on duty, was stabbed to death by an accused who was brought for medical examination by the police at the government taluk hospital in Kottarakkara on Wednesday. The doctor was reportedly stabbed six times and assaulted by the accused.
After the incident, she was rushed to a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram but she died on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, the police took the accused, Sandeep, into custody after he had a brawl with his neighbour. Later, the police took him to taluk hospital for a mandatory medical check-up.
The victim started nursing his wounds when Sandeep suddenly started to stab her with a scissor he had reportedly grabbed from the dressing room of the hospital, said a report on ANI. The victim was identified as Doctor Vandana Das, an intern at Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital.
After the accused stabbed her to death, the accused attacked other people and vandalised the hospital. In the attack, a home guard and a sub-inspector sustained injuries.
Sandeep had worked as a school teacher in Kerala. However, he was lastly undergoing treatment at a deaddiction center.

On Wednesday, Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan and CM Pinarayi Vijayan arrived at KIMS hospital to pay last respects to deceased Dr. Vandana Das.
However, the medical students, under the aegis of House Surgeons Association, have started to protest condemning the crime against a doctor. Dr. Rahul Krishna, House Surgeons Association representative said, "IMA views this with a lot of agony. We are having a meeting of the Kerala State Branch today afternoon, it will be joined by national leaders. A strong action plan, nationally, would happen. This is something which cannot be tolerated. Doctors should be able to treat patients in a fearless atmosphere."
