A prisoner got agitated allegedly since he was not satisfied with the quantity of mutton curry served to him in jail and manhandled jail officials in Kerala. He is a convict in a drug case.
According to PTI, Fajis, a Wayanad resident, was lodged in a high-security cell inside Poojappura Central Jail.
On Saturday, Poojappura police served the jail officials with food including mutton curry. While Fajis was served mutton, he suddenly started to yell from the tower and reportedly dumped the food in the bin. When the officers tried to calm him down, Faijas reportedly hurled abuses. He also tried to manhandle the deputy SP and other officers. The officers then overpowered him and moved him to a special cell, said a report on The Hindu.
The Poojappura police, as PTI said, "He attempted to attack the jail officials over the quantity of the food served to him. A case has been registered based on the complaint by the jail authorities."
The convict reportedly asked for more quantity of mutton than others. As a result, a senior official said that he created an issue on the premises.
"Normally on Saturdays, we serve Mutton curry to the prisoners. He was given the usual quantity but he sought more than what is normally served. He created an issue and threw the mutton given to him into a waste basket. He also manhandled senior jail officials including the deputy superintendent," the jail official said.
He said that the convict has created similar issues at other prisons. At present, he said that he has been shifted to a special ward.
The prisoner was booked under Sections including uttering obscene words and assault to deter public servant of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
