New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to interfere with the anticipatory bail granted to actor and producer Vijay Babu in a sexual assault case that a debutant actor filed in Kerala High Court. The apex court has modified the conditions, as it directed the actor-producer not to leave the state of Kerala without the court's permission and have him restrained from posting on social media anything related to the case.

SC, however, modifies the part on interrogation of Kerala HC order & says that petitioner Vijay Babu may be interrogated beyond July 3, 2022, if necessary, according to news agency ANI.

As reportedly earlier by ABP Live, Kerala High Court in its June 22 ruling granted the actor-producer pre-arrest bail and directed him to surrender before the investigating officer on June 27 for investigation. The investigation continued for seven days till July 3. The HC while granting bail ordered that if the police wanted to arrest him, he should be released on bail executing a Rs 5 lakh bond along with two sureties.

A debutant Malayalam actress whose first appearance on screen was with actor Vijay Babu registered a rape case in the last week of April accusing him of sexually assaulting her several times. In her complaint, she also said that Vijay has forced her to take drugs.

Hours after the case was filed, Vijay revealed the name of the actress on social media and claimed that he was the real victim. The police then filed another case against the actor-producer for revealing the complainant's name on social media.
