Aluva Child Rape & Murder: Kerala Govt Announces Rs 10 Lakh To Family Of Victim

On 28 July, a girl was raped and murdered allegedly by a migrant worker from Bihar who lived in the same block as the victim.

Kerala government announced financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh to the family of the five-year-old girl who was raped and murdered in Aluva area. A statement from Kerala CM Vijayan's office said that the decision was taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by CM.

Earlier, Women and Child Development Department sanctioned an urgent cash support of Rs 1 lakh to the Bihar-based family, said a report on PTI. The amount is likely to be transferred to the joint account of the parents.

The accused, Ashfaq Alam, was caught the same day, but the girl's body was discovered only the next day in a sack in a swampy area behind a local market in Aluva. On August 1, he was taken into police custody for 10 days.

According to the police, Alam was arrested five years ago in a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) case in Delhi and was imprisoned for a month before being freed on bail.

He was arrested by Ghazipur police (east Delhi) in 2018 for attempting to sexually molest a 10-year-old girl there, Kerala police said on Tuesday, said a report on PTI.

Meanwhile, Thajudeen, a witness, said that he saw Alam going along with a girl inside the market.

He said, "I saw him that day... I will say this anywhere."

He said that the accused should get maximum punishment. On the next step, a senior police officer said, "We have already filed the custody application of the accused. After the test identification parade procedure, we will step into that. The rest of the things will be decided by the court."
