Chennai: The police recovered a large number of explosives near a quarry from Palakkad of Kerala on Thursday. The police seized explosives including 8,000 gelatin sticks wrapped in light pink coloured covers and stacked in 40 boxes.
On Wednesday, the locals of Ongalloor spotted 8,000 gelatin sticks in forty boxes in an open area near a quarry and immediately alerted the police.
The local police rushed to the spot and recovered the explosives. They have also booked a case and started the investigation.
The police suspect that the quarry might have stocked up the gelatine sticks for breaking rocks in the quarries.

This is not the first time the police officials are recovering huge loads of explosives in Palakkad. Even in November 2020, police seized a huge consignment of explosives that was smuggled into Palakkad's Walayar.
The Walayar police seized 7,500 detonators and 7,000 gelatin sticks from a mini lorry from Erode in Tamil Nadu to Angamaly in Ernakulam district. The smugglers tried to escape by loading tonnes of tomatoes on top of the explosives but the police managed to spot the explosives and seize them.

Even earlier, the police also suspected that the explosives were carried for use in quarries of Palakkad district.
