People in parts of Karnataka are bearing the brunt of the aftermath of the recent rain fury in the state as roads and sewage system has taken a massive hit. The Karnataka government has started taking action on the illegal construction in Bengaluru after the city was recently hit with severe waterlogging. Similarly, roads in Udipi have also taken a hit due to rains as motorists face tough time on the pothole-riddled roads.
A social worker, Nityananda Olakadu, protested against poor condition of roads in a unique way by performing 'Urulu Seve' (rolling) on the pothole-riddled road in Udipi's Indrali Bridge which is located on the Udipi-Manipal NH. Besides performing 'Urulu Seve', Olakadu, donned saffron attire, could be seen breaking a coconut after offering pooja on the damaged national highway.

Olakadu decided to protest in such a unique way to draw civic body and politicians' attention to the poor condition of roads. “Not just the people but many cows and other animals have died on this road due to its condition. This government asks for votes on cow's safety but does not fix roads. Chief minister Basavaraj Bommai too travelled many times on this road but it still remains the same,” he told The News Minute.
Poor road conditions and unique protests by people are not new in Karnataka as a man earlier dressed up as Yamraj and rode on a bike as a pillion rider on a pothole-riddled Anjanpura road in Bengaluru.
