Mysuru: In a shocking incident, a student from Uttar Pradesh was raped by a gang of six youths at the foothills of the Chamundi hills in Mysuru, police said on Wednesday.


According to the police, the incident took place on Tuesday night at about 7 PM, when the girl was returning home with a friend. She had gone to an isolated Chamundi hills area with him. The gang of six youths, allegedly in an inebriated state, waylaid the victim and her friend near isolated Lalithadripura and committed the crime, they said.


The accused attacked the boy, who was with the girl, with a large piece of rock and then sexually assaulted the girl, the police said. The victim had reportedly come from Uttar Pradesh to Mysuru for studies. She is a student of a private college. The police sources said the victim and her friend have been admitted to  hospital for treatment and they are out of danger.

"The victim is admitted to a hospital. A case has been registered based on the statement of the victim... I have instructed the DGP to take stringent action against the culprits," said Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai, who is in New Delhi to meet Union Minister for Jal Shakti, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, to discuss about Mahdayi and other river issues concerning the state.






Responding to the incident, Home Minister Araga Jnanendra said, "It's unfortunate incident. An FIR has been registered. We've sent senior officials including ADGP Pratap Reddy to Mysuru. I'm also going to Mysuru tomorrow. We'll take strict action against the culprits."






The incident had taken place within the limits of Avalahalli police station. DCP Pradeep Gunti has visited the spot. Since, the victim and her friend are not in a position to record their statements, the police are yet to get basic details of the incident. The investigation is on.
