Prime Minister Narendra Modi responded to a remark made by the Congress party leader during the previous assembly elections in Northeastern states of the country while speaking at a mega rally in Davanagere, Karnataka.
The prime minister said: "Congress' people say 'Modi Teri Qabr Khudegi,' but they don't know that the people of Karnataka have a dream, which is 'Modi Tera Kamal Khilega."
Prime minister Narendra Modi arrived in Karnataka ahead of the Karnataka Assembly elections to attend events in Chikkaballapur, Bengaluru, and Davangere. In Chikkaballapur, the Prime Minister officially opened the Sri Madhusudan Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research. In addition, he dedicated Bengaluru's long-awaited Whitefield Metro.
Addressing his party's Vijaya Sankalp Yatre Maha Sangama, the prime minister said: "Karnataka has decided to bring back the double engine government in the state. Karnataka has seen opportunistic and selfish governments for a long time which has affected the state. That's why BJP's stable govt is needed for the development of the state," news agency ANI quoted.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Karnataka for his seventh visit today, attending various official events and addressing a mega public meeting organised by the party. The election commission is expected to release the poll schedule for the May Assembly elections in the coming days.
Launching an attack on the Congress party, PM said "Congress looks at Karnataka as an ATM that fills its treasury". The grand old party, according to PM, during every election wanders with a "bag of false guarantees".
PM Modi held a massive road show prior to the public rally. A large crowd could be seen gathered to welcome the Prime Minister.
Political parties such as the BJP and the Janata Dal-Secular have already stepped up their efforts in the southern state. The polls are seen as especially important for Congress in terms of its national ambitions for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
