Chennai: After a viral video showed college students dancing in burqa for a Bollywood song, the students of St Joseph Engineering College in Mangaluru who were part of the informal event were suspended by the college administration.



According to ANI, “Students of St Joseph Engineering College, Mangaluru were suspended for dancing in a burqa to Bollywood song at the informal event of students association.”

The college principal said, "It wasn't part of an approved program. College doesn't support activities that may harm harmony between communities"






In a statement, the college said that they suspended the students with whom the inquiry was pending. The college also clarified that the students unexpectedly got up on the stage and performed the song and it was not a part of the planned itinerary.


The statement from the in-charge principal, St Joseph Engineering College, Sudheer said, "The video clip being circulated in social media has captured a part of the dance by students of the Muslim community itself who barged on stage during the informal part of students association inaugural, It was not part of the approved program and the students involved have been suspended pending an inquiry.”

“The college does not support or condone any activities that could harm the harmony between communities and everyone on campus knows that strict guidelines are in place in this regard,” it said.
