A serious case of food poisoning has left five people in critical condition and 46 others sick after consuming 'prasada' at the Bhireshwar and Karemma Devi fair in Hoolikatti village, Savadatti Taluka of Karnataka on Wednesday. Those who fell ill were taken to Savadatti Public Hospital and Belagavi District Hospital for immediate treatment. The five critically ill patients have been transferred to Dharwad District Hospital for advanced care.


According to ANI, 5 people are critical and 46 others fell sick after consuming 'prasada' at the Bhireshwar and Karemma Devi fair held in Hoolikatti village of Savadatti Taluka.


The people who were admitted complained of stomach ache, vomiting and dysentery.

The officials are investigating the incident to determine the cause of the contamination and ensure the safety of food distributed at such events in the future.


Meanwhile, officials reported that approximately 200 individuals became unwell due to suspected food poisoning after consuming 'prasad' during a religious event in Lonar, located in Maharashtra's Buldhana district. The incident occurred during the 'Harinam Saptah,' a week-long religious program, at Somthana village in Lonar taluka, informed Buldhana district collector Kiran Patil.


“Around 200 villagers complained of nausea and vomiting after consuming prasad during the function. While 142 of them were admitted to the rural hospital at Bibi, 20 others in Lonar and 35 patients to a facility in Mehkar,” he said, as per a report on PTI.


Patil further added that the condition of all the patients was stable, and the majority of them were discharged.
